Impactified is very excited to congratulate Prof. Surabhi Chopra and The CUHK Law Faculty for the recent announcement of an Impact Funding award in the range of HK$ 3 million (> USD 380k).
Over the year 2019, the Impactified team has been proudly instrumental in developing CUHK Law’s Academic Impact Strategy. With the involvement of Mr Philippe Bonnet as a consultant (as Business Talents Asia at the time) and the continuous efforts of Dr Antoine Martin – then Head of the Faculty’s Impact Strategy – Impact has been introduced as a potential for change and ten projects have been supported, generating about HK$10 million in research funding in under 10 months.

The news that an academic Impact grant of HK$2,998,800 was awarded to Professor Chopra by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) Research Impact Fund 2019/20 was not a surprise.
The point of academic Impact thinking is to turn research from academic publication to life-changing insight, and this is precisely what Professor Chopra’s project on “Immigration Detention and Vulnerable Migrants in Hong Kong: Evaluating the System, Facilitating Reform” was designed for.
This project demonstrates that academic Impact is a powerful development for academia. Provided that the right message, culture, coaching and support systems are put into place, those researchers who want to make a difference can make a difference and obtain funding to do so.
All it takes is a decision to act.
Congratulations, Professor Chopra!
