In 2023, Be Your Own Priority (and Make a Change!)

Here we are, already,  December 2022. We have entered the last month of the year… And – as always – we have the feeling that these twelve months have gone by so fast that it is difficult to realize how much we have achieved!

In this article, I propose a one-to-one coaching session to take stock of 2022 and prepare for 2023, so that this year can finally be the revelation of who you are and you can start to feel the first signs of happiness.

Responsibility

This year has brought you its share of difficulties, joys, and memorable moments. To assess the experiences you have gained, it is time to start listing the biggest challenges you have faced.

  • What did you do with them?
  • What strategies did you put in place to deal with them and move forward?
  • What lessons have you learned?
  • Are you proud of yourself?

Confronting these issues – even if it’s not always pleasant – is an important step on the road to happiness. It will allow you to take responsibility for them, draw the necessary conclusions and set yourself on the road to new projects to conquer.

Then, what were the positive points of this year? What were your victories? What did they bring you? Did you feel any particular emotions when you achieved them? Do you want them to happen again?

Once you have reviewed it, it is time to ask yourself what you are looking for in 2023. What are your needs, goals, and dreams? But above all, what five values will be at the center of your year ahead?

Proactivity

How do you feel today? What are your thoughts and plans – even secret ones? How long have you been thinking about them? Wouldn’t it be a good time to put your ideas on paper? Writing is a great way to get out what you’re excited about… and to realize things.

So be proactive. Take a sheet of paper, and a pen and make time for yourself. Ask yourself what emotions drive you daily, what you want to experience, and what would make you even happier…

Whether it’s small one-off gestures like sending a letter to a loved one, making that doctor’s appointment for a check-up, going to visit a museum you’ve been wanting to see for a while, or more engaging actions like calling your loved ones more regularly, playing sports, starting a book, creating a project that’s close to your heart, or starting business coaching or performance coaching sessions to work on what matters… it’s time to put what’s good for you, get out of your comfort zone, and get moving.

So list, without concession, your expectations, and dreams for 2023: what are the most important things for you, without negotiation? And how will you measure your progress and success? What will you do to shine and not fall back into the trap of a disappointing routine?

If you haven’t yet found what makes you tick, here are some questions that might help:

  • What are your values?
  • What are the topics that give you energy when you talk to your loved ones?
  • What are your qualities and talents?
  • How do you feel when you think about your life?
  • Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Create an ecosystem for yourself that will allow you to flourish and drive you forward. Also listen to your intuition, that inner voice that we don’t pay attention to. And remember that every challenge, even the most ambitious, always starts with a small step.

Planning and routine

Finally, whatever you have thought of – and whatever ideas you have come up with as a result of this article – it is time to look at putting them into practice. Where do you start? How do you achieve your goals? Planning is an essential step in turning these ideas and goals into reality.

To do this, define these goals using the SMART method (specific, measurable, assignable, attainable, and time-bound). Then set up a new routine that you will implement, keeping in mind that the first twenty-one days will be crucial. Think about how will you feel about it after those 21 days.

So, are you ready to take up the challenge? And how determined are you? What’s your takeaway? I am convinced that you have the ability and resources within you to do it!
